Your weekly preview of what’s coming in your Snead’s Farm CSA box this week, and ideas for using it in the kitchen.

This is the final CSA pickup of 2021. Remember that all CSA members pick up the fall box at Snead’s Farm on Wednesday, Oct. 6. October 6 is also the last day to join the 2022 CSA at a 10% discount. Click here to join.

  • 2 dozen eggs from Canning Farm in King George County
  • 2 quarts gala apples
  • one large bag sweet potatoes from Canning Farm in King George County
  • one quart Snead’s Farm tomatoes

Pick-your-own opportunities this week:

  • 1 dozen cut-your-own sunflowers, to be picked at Snead’s Farm on Wednesday, Oct. 6, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • 2 half-pints raspberries to be picked at Snead’s Farm on Wednesday, Oct. 6, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
  • 1 busket Concord grapes (while supplies last) to be picked at Snead’s Farm on Wednesday, Oct. 6, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
  • 3 orange pumpkins, to be picked at Snead’s Farm on Wednesday, Oct. 6, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. (Please note that only orange pumpkins are included in the CSA, due to a shortage of colored pumpkins. CSA members may pick pumpkins of any size, from small to jumbo. Other colored pumpkins must be purchased at the farm stand.)

Festival fun included with your membership:

  • CSA members get free admission (normally $9 per person) to the Fall Festival on pickup day, Oct. 6. In addition to enjoying our mountain slides, hiking trails and other play areas, your membership entitles you to:
    • 1 sample jar of chutney from the Pälzer Mädel booth at the festival.
    • 1 sample serving of fresh pressed apple juice
    • 1 sample serving of Appalachian Kettle Korn
