What is the Snead’s Farm Monthly CSA? The Snead’s Farm Monthly CSA is a new offering for 2024 that allows you to purchase a one-month membership to receive a share of fresh, local produce. You can choose between a July-only membership or an August and October membership.

tomatoesWhat are the benefits of the Monthly CSA? The Monthly CSA provides you with a weekly box of fresh produce from Snead’s Farm and its partner farms. It includes pick-your-own opportunities during the subscription month and is perfect for those who might be out of town for part of the summer or want produce only when specific items are in season.

What size share is available for the Monthly CSA? The Monthly CSA is only available in the small share size, which is typically enough for one family.

What are the pickup details for the Monthly CSA? All monthly CSA members will pick up their boxes on Wednesdays at Snead’s Farm between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. If you sign up here to be on our e-mail list, you will receive an email on the Sunday before your pickup with details about the box contents and any pick-your-own opportunities.

What produce is typically included in the Monthly CSA boxes? While we cannot guarantee specific items, the typical produce for each month is as follows:

  • July: Eggs, greens, tomatoes, peaches, raspberries, blackberries, sunflowers, eggplant, potatoes, squash, cantaloupe, peppers, corn, watermelon.
  • August and October: Eggs, peaches, tomatoes, squash, peppers, corn, watermelon, blackberries, grapes, sunflowers, cantaloupe, apples, sweet potatoes, pumpkins.

What happens if I miss a pickup? If you miss a pickup, you have the option to have someone else pick it up for you or request that your share be donated to the Fredericksburg Food Bank by calling Snead’s Farm by 8 p.m. on the Sunday before your pickup. Cash refunds or share replacements are not offered for missed pickups.

How do I join the Monthly CSA? A: To join, print out the membership form, fill it out, and send it with your payment to Emmett Snead, 18294 Tidewater Trail, Fredericksburg, VA 22408. Make checks payable to Emmett Snead. You can also buy online here.

Are there any additional responsibilities for members? Yes, members are responsible for picking up their produce during scheduled hours, returning boxes and egg cartons to the farm, and signing up on the website to read the CSA newsletters.

What is the cost of the Monthly CSA? The cost is $200 for the July membership and $150 for the August and October membership.

What farms partner with Snead’s Farm for the CSA? The CSA includes produce from Snead’s Farm, Canning Farm of King George County, Idlewood Farm near Richmond, Moss Neck Farm of Caroline County, and Braehead Farm of Fredericksburg.

Are there any risks involved with the CSA? Yes, as a community-supported venture, members share in the risks and benefits of growing food. While the farm is committed to providing high-quality produce, agricultural risks are inherent.

Can I visit the farm on pickup days? A: Yes, members are welcome to visit, picnic, and stroll around the farm on pickup days.
