Fredericksburg Food Bank

Thanks to support from two generous individuals, Snead’s Farm was able to partner with the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank this growing season. Donors purchased 25 shares of the CSA on behalf of the Food Bank. Snead’s Farm has been able to supplement this donation with extra loads of watermelons, corn and other items, and members have also been able to donate their box when on vacation. In total, this program has resulted in more than 17,000 pounds of fresh produce being made available for use across the Food Bank’s many programs, at a retail value of more than $39,000 (with two more pickups still left in the season). For the Food Bank, this has equated to 14,305 meals provided to neighbors in need.

The Food Bank would like to expand this program next year. Snead’s Farm is offering shares for donor purchase for the Food Bank at a discounted rate. If you would like to purchase a full share for the Food Bank, or donate toward the purchase of CSA shares for the Food Bank, please make a tax-deductible donation here. Help make nutritious farm-fresh produce available to more members of our community!

Challenge Grant doubles your donation through Oct. 4.

An anonymous donor has issued a challenge to jump-start the Food Bank’s CSA purchases. This donor will match up to $5,000 in donations toward Food Bank purchases of Snead’s Farm CSA shares, now through Oct. 4. If the community can reach this goal, the Food Bank will be able to purchase 15 CSA shares.

Why is it important for the Food Bank to have access to fresh, local produce?

“Fresh produce is very important to the neighbors we serve because it profoundly impacts their health and well-being. The array of nutrients in fruits and vegetables aids in disease prevention, improves energy levels and enhances mental health. For neighbors facing food insecurity, the availability of fresh produce enhances nutrition, promotes a healthy diet, and nurtures a sense of community. By offering nutrient-dense foods, we empower our neighbors to make healthier choices, promoting long-term well-being and creating a stronger, more vibrant community.”
