A note to our members

We strive each week to provide a box for our CSA members whose retail value reflects at least the weekly share of your investment in the CSA, if not far higher. While this week’s box contains high-quality, delicious food, its retail value is not as high as we would like it to be. That is largely due to the fact that 2020 weather conditions have delayed our growing season by 2 to 3 weeks on most crops. This is particularly true with our raspberries, which are a high-value, popular item in our CSA. The first wave of our raspberry crop, which is typically available in mid- to late-June, was wiped out by the late spring frosts. The second wave is blooming now and looks strong, and we look forward to sharing it with our members when it comes in. This delay has affected not only our CSA, but also our roadside stand, which opened 12 days later than normal this year due to the delayed corn crop, and has had far less product to sell than is normal at this point in the season. This is just a fact of farming, and the silver lining may come in fuller and more delicious boxes later in the summer. But it is important to us that you know how much we value our CSA members, whose annual commitment keeps our farm and many other family farms in this region growing food year after year. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to providing the berries, peaches, melons and other delicious food you have come to expect from the Snead’s Farm CSA as soon as Mother Nature brings it to us.
